Panamanian lawmakers promise to promote Taiwan friendship group; Han Kuo-yu to urge establishment of legislative association

Taiwan's Legislative Yuan Speaker Han Kuo-yu has indicated his support for establishing a parliamentary friendship group with Panama, following a meeting with a visiting Panamanian delegation. Han met with the cross-party group on Thursday, accompanied by legislators and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, Han highlighted the significant economic ties between Taiwan and Panama, particularly in the agricultural sector. He noted that Taiwan imports approximately 40% of its white shrimp from Panama, underscoring the importance of this trade relationship. Han expressed a strong desire to further deepen economic and trade cooperation between the two nations.

The visit by the Panamanian parliamentary delegation is seen as an effort to bolster bilateral relations. Han's commitment to promoting the establishment of a legislative friendship group aims to create a formal platform for ongoing dialogue and collaboration between the lawmakers of both countries, fostering closer ties beyond existing economic exchanges.
