Paragliding Crash Survivor: Cinematographer George Richmond Recovers After Dramatic Rescue and Surgery

British cinematographer George Richmond, known for his work on Hollywood blockbusters like "Free Guy" and "Deadpool & Wolverine," is recovering after a paragliding accident in India's Himachal Pradesh. He underwent successful surgery for serious neck and spine injuries and is currently hospitalized in Chandigarh.

The incident occurred on June 8 while Richmond was participating in a long-distance cross-country flying expedition from Bir Billing to Deo Tibba in the Kullu district. He crashed in rugged mountainous terrain near Deo Tibba. Following the accident, four other paragliders alerted local authorities, initiating a coordinated search and rescue operation involving the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Richmond was successfully evacuated from the accident site and received initial medical care in Kullu before being airlifted to Chandigarh. Doctors at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) diagnosed him with a fracture of the C1 vertebra and a fracture-dislocation at the C5-C6 level, which had resulted in quadriplegia. The surgery involved removing a damaged intervertebral disc and fractured elements causing neural compression.

Doctors report that Richmond is stable, conscious, and communicating effectively. He remains under close observation by a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, and rehabilitation specialists.
