Park Jie-won: Han Dong-hoon Is Acting Just Like Yoon Suk Yeol

Democratic Party lawmaker Park Jie-won accused independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon of “acting just like Yoon Suk Yeol” as Han continued releasing call recordings related to allegations surrounding Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won.\n\nSpeaking on SBS radio, Park said Yoon and Han were difficult to distinguish from each other. He argued that 15 prosecutors working under Yoon and Han had investigated Kim for three years, and that serious wrongdoing would have led to an indictment rather than a suspension of indictment. Park said that decision had been made by prosecutors under Han, making Han’s sudden release of the recordings questionable.\n\nPark also compared Han’s conduct with Yoon’s actions during the 2019 confirmation hearing for Cho Kuk, who was then a justice minister nominee. He said Han should first clearly explain where he obtained the recordings.\n\nDemocratic lawmaker Lee Su-jin likewise accused Han of releasing the calls to increase his public profile. She said prosecutors had been unable to indict Kim because they judged such a case would have been excessive, and accused Han of stitching together selected material to mislead public opinion. Lee said Han appeared to be returning to the “politics of media manipulation” familiar from his background, possibly hoping that pressure could force the nominee out and strengthen Han’s standing within his party.\n\nLee added that the public would make its own judgment about what she described as political maneuvering by former prosecutors who were committing illegal acts without hesitation.
