Park Jin-hyung wins joint second place at Arthur Rubinstein piano competition

Pianist Park Jin-hyung, 30, has taken joint second place at the 18th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition, earning prize money of $20,000, or about 27 million won.

Park shared the result with Belarusian pianist Uladzislau Khandohi at the competition’s conclusion in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Sept. 8 local time, according to the Kumho Cultural Foundation. Russia’s Dmitry Yudin won first place, while Ukraine’s Roman Fediurko came third.

Founded in 1974, the competition honors the 20th-century pianist Arthur Rubinstein, who lived from 1887 to 1982. This year’s event was open to pianists aged 18 to 32 from around the world.

The first and second rounds took place from April 28 to May 4. The final, originally planned for May, was postponed until September because of war in the Middle East. Six finalists emerged from 39 contestants who advanced to the main rounds, competing in three final-stage performances from Sept. 3 to 8.
