Park Si-hoon wins silver at U-20 World Athletics Championships

Park Si-hoon, nicknamed 'Thor,' secured a silver medal in the men's shot put at the U-20 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. His throw of 20.31 meters placed him second, just behind Brazil's Alessandro Borges, who achieved 20.35 meters.

This silver medal marks South Korea's seventh medal at the U-20 World Athletics Championships and ends a 12-year medal drought since Woo Sang-hyeok won bronze in the men's high jump in 2014. South Korea has previously won one silver and five bronze medals at the event.

Park, a standout in men's shot put, holds all national records across junior categories. He had already secured a spot in the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games by throwing 19.10 meters with the senior-weight (7.26kg) shot put earlier this year. He also won the 22nd Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Hong Kong in May with a new U-20 Asian record of 20.65 meters.

Despite the achievement, Park expressed some disappointment about not setting a personal best. "Although I won a silver medal, I am disappointed that I failed to break my personal best," he stated through the Korea Athletics Federation. "This was my last U-20 competition, and I will work harder so that I don't have such regrets in the senior competitions."
