Paul Gheysens Bids Farewell to Antwerp FC in Open Letter

Paul Gheysens has officially ended his tenure as owner and chairman of Royal Antwerp FC, bidding farewell to the club's supporters in an open letter. "Even though my commitment ends today, my connection to this unique club will never disappear," Gheysens stated, marking the conclusion of a "special chapter" for his family.

Gheysens recalled the club's journey since he and his family began their involvement with a vision to restore Antwerp to its rightful place as a top Belgian club. He acknowledged the initial skepticism but highlighted the collective belief of his family, the thousands of supporters, sponsors, employees, volunteers, and players. This shared commitment led to Antwerp's return to the first division, the revitalized Bosuil stadium, memorable European nights, and historic victories including the Belgian Cup, the league title, and the Supercup.

Beyond the trophies, Gheysens emphasized the emotional impact of their time with the club: the sea of red and white scarves, sold-out matches at the Bosuil, families attending games together, the elation of victory, the disappointment of defeat, and the renewed pride of Antwerp. He stated these memories are more valuable than any trophy.

Expressing immense pride in his family's contribution, Gheysens stressed that a club's success is a collective effort, born from the convergence of ambition, passion, and loyalty. He asserted that Royal Antwerp FC is fundamentally greater than any chairman, director, or shareholder, belonging instead to its history, values, and most importantly, its supporters. He wished the new owners success, hoping they would build upon their achievements with the same ambition, care, and respect.
