PDP 2023 Guber Candidate Dumps ADC for APC in Major Sokoto Political Realignment

Sokoto's political landscape has been significantly reshaped with the defection of Mallam Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ubandoma, also a notable figure in the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), officially joined the APC, a move announced in a statement by Bashar Abubakar, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.

Ubandoma was formally welcomed into the APC by Senator Wamakko, the party's leader in Sokoto State, at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja. A former public servant and key stakeholder in the ADC, Ubandoma held significant positions under the previous administration, serving as Commissioner for Finance and later as Secretary to the Sokoto State Government during the tenure of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

Explaining his decision to leave the ADC and join the APC, Ubandoma expressed admiration for the quality of leadership and political maturity demonstrated by Senator Wamakko over the years. He also pointed to the performance of the current Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, whose administration's achievements in critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and rural development convinced him that the APC offers the most credible platform for Sokoto's continued progress.

"The remarkable strides of the current administration across critical sectors of the state’s economy left me with no doubt that the APC is the party to deliver on the aspirations of the people of Sokoto State," Ubandoma stated, signaling his belief in the APC's capacity to meet the state's developmental goals.
