PDP seeks IG’s intervention in slain Osun teenager’s murder probe

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to closely monitor the investigation into the killing of Ezekiel Olapade, a teenager allegedly shot dead in Ilobu by political thugs.

The party, in a statement signed by its chairman, Sunday Bisi, demanded a comprehensive, transparent, and impartial investigation. Bisi insisted that all individuals connected to the crime must be brought to justice, regardless of their political affiliation or status.

The PDP considers this development disturbing and capable of creating the impression that the investigation process is being deliberately diverted from individuals allegedly linked to the crime against political opponents.

The PDP also raised concerns about alleged police bias, citing an incident where operatives reportedly invaded the residence of the PDP chairman for Irepodun Local Government Area on June 29. The party claims the chairman was not invited prior to the operation and that his belongings were damaged. The PDP views this as disturbing and potentially indicative of an attempt to divert the investigation away from suspects linked to the crime.

Bisi further requested an investigation into alleged threats made against Amotekun personnel before Olapade's death and an explanation from the Osun State Police Command regarding the raid on the PDP chairman's home. The party seeks assurances of law enforcement neutrality and adherence to the rule of law. The PDP affirmed its commitment to supporting Olapade's family in their pursuit of justice and resisting any attempts to politicize or compromise the investigation.

Efforts to reach the Osun State Police Command spokesperson were unsuccessful. However, reports indicate that Kareem Saheed, identified as a suspect in leading hoodlums to the local government secretariat on the day of the shooting, has been paraded by the police along with 23 others arrested for various offenses.
