Pedestrian prosecuted for causing accident on national highway

A 39-year-old man in Vietnam's Lang Son province faces prosecution for causing a serious traffic accident after crossing a national highway at an unauthorized location without signaling. The incident highlights the dangers of pedestrian negligence on busy roads.

The accident occurred on September 27, 2025, at km76+400 on National Highway 1, in Cai Kinh commune. T.D.N. was walking across the road when he collided with a motorcycle driven by L.T.H., a 41-year-old woman. The collision resulted in significant injuries for both individuals: T.D.N. sustained a 70% bodily injury, while L.T.H. suffered a 65% injury. The motorcycle also sustained damage, estimated at approximately 4 million Vietnamese dong.

Prosecutors from the Lang Son Provincial People's Procuracy have determined that T.D.N.'s actions violated road safety regulations. He crossed the highway where there were no traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, overpasses, or underpasses, and failed to signal his intention to cross. These violations of the 2024 Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety led to severe consequences.

Authorities are using this case to emphasize the importance of adhering to traffic laws for all road users, including pedestrians. The People's Procuracy of Lang Son Province urges the public to strictly comply with traffic safety regulations, warning that serious violations can lead to criminal charges. The Ministry of Public Security also advises pedestrians to cross roads only at designated areas, observe traffic carefully, and avoid sudden crossings, especially at night or in blind spots. Drivers are reminded to reduce speed in populated areas and be vigilant for unexpected situations.
