Penghu County Magistrate Election: Chen Kuang-fu's Wife Wu Shu-chin to Run in His Stead; DPP to Nominate on June 17

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is set to nominate Wu Shu-chin to run for Penghu County Magistrate, stepping in for her husband, incumbent Chen Kuang-fu. Chen, who had secured the party's nomination for re-election, is currently hospitalized and recovering from a severe head injury sustained in a fall on February 17.

Sources indicate that the DPP's candidate selection committee will finalize the nomination on Wednesday morning. Following approval by the party's central standing committee that afternoon, party chairman and President Lai Ching-te is expected to formally introduce Wu at a press conference. This decision comes after months of deliberation since Chen's accident.

Wu Shu-chin has expressed a strong willingness to run and has been actively engaging with local constituents. While Chen Kuang-fu remains the official nominee, consensus within the party is growing for Wu to take his place. The change is now considered a procedural matter.

Wu stated that she is ready to stand on the front lines as soon as the central party's directive is announced. She aims to fight for the well-being of Penghu County residents and to continue her husband's unfinished policies. She confirmed that the DPP central committee has extended an invitation, and she will travel to Taipei next Wednesday.
