Penghu's 'Local Industry Innovation and R&D' Achievements Presented, Creating Products by Leveraging Local Raw Materials

Penghu County showcased the innovative potential of its local industries at an "Local Industry Innovation and R&D" achievement presentation, highlighting new products derived from regional raw materials.

Ten local businesses successfully completed their research and development projects with the support of SBIR subsidies. These initiatives injected new energy into Penghu's traditional tourism, food, manufacturing, and cultural sectors by integrating digital innovation, low-carbon sustainability, and local aesthetics. A key focus was the creative utilization of local resources to drive industry development.

One notable project by Boteng Marine Biotechnology, based in Chikan Village, transformed discarded sand and oyster shells into cultural and experiential assets. They developed filtration bricks and artificial reef modules, leading to the creation of desktop ecological observation tanks. Collaborating with the National Penghu University of Science and Technology, they also co-created a "6-sense" experience tour that combines intertidal zone education, sand and shell craft creation, and community culture, aiming to extend visitor stays and increase spending opportunities while repurposing marine waste.

Baowu Co. Ltd. launched three natural herbal functional handmade soaps tailored for different skin types, utilizing endemic arid plants like Artemisia capillaris, Portulaca oleracea, and Limonium sinuatum that thrive in Penghu's unique environment. This initiative enhances the added value of the island's traditional herbal plant resources. Additionally, Langyu Entertainment addressed pain points in water recreational activities by developing a one-piece diving sock that is slip-resistant, cut-resistant, and lightweight, successfully obtaining a new utility model patent.

The Penghu County Government's Construction Department emphasized that the core value of the local SBIR program lies in assisting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in reducing R&D risks. Through financial support, the program aims to attract more outstanding brands to join the innovation drive. The program accepts applications once a year, encouraging local SMEs with innovative ideas to participate actively.
