Penonomé Flooded by Brief Rain; Civil Protection Monitors Vulnerable Areas

Penonomé, Panama – A brief but intense rain shower has inundated streets and toppled trees in Penonomé, the capital of Coclé province. This downpour, the first in about 15 days, has once again exposed the region's persistent drainage issues.

Regional Civil Protection director Alexander Guardado confirmed that emergency teams are actively monitoring affected areas. While rivers have not overflowed and coastal areas remain calm, Guardado noted that the rains have impacted Penonomé, Antón, and parts of El Valle. The agency is particularly focused on mountainous communities like El Valle de Antón, Caballero, Chiguirí Arriba, Pozo Azul, Marta, La Pintada, and El Copé, which are susceptible to landslides during the rainy season.

Despite the disruptions, authorities have not reported any river overflows, strong waves, or sea surges along the Pacific coast. Details on the exact number of flooded streets or trees felled remain unconfirmed.
