Pension Difference Payments Due August 7; January 2027 Raise Scenarios Emerge

Millions of Turkish pensioners are awaiting the difference payments for their pensions, which are scheduled to be deposited on August 7, 2026. This follows a legal adjustment that raised the minimum pension to 23,552 Turkish Lira. The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released July inflation data, offering the first glimpse into potential pension increases for January 2027.

While civil servants and 4C-category retirees received a total 13.52% raise in July, including a 6.09% inflation difference, SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees saw their pensions increase by 17.76% based on inflation figures. The focus has now shifted to the payment of differences for the adjusted minimum pensions, which will be completed by August 7.

The July inflation figure, recorded at 1.78% monthly, is the lowest for July in the past six years. This data serves as the initial benchmark for calculating the pension adjustments expected in January 2027. The six-month period for determining these adjustments has officially begun.

Looking ahead to January 2027, experts have outlined three distinct scenarios for pension increases. Based on current forecasts from the Central Bank, market participants, and financial institutions, the anticipated raise for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees is expected to range between 7% and 10.67%. The total annual cost of the minimum pension increase to the central budget is estimated to be around 79 billion Turkish Lira.
