People Power Party Ethics Committee in Turmoil as Vice Chairman Accuses Chairman of Leaking Secrets

A fierce internal dispute has erupted within the People Power Party's Central Ethics Committee. The conflict escalated after Committee Chairman Yoon Min-hwan warned committee members against leaking internal discussions, threatening to request their dismissal from the party leader.

In response, Vice Chairman Woo Jong-hwan and other committee members accused Yoon of violating confidentiality. They stated that Yoon allegedly shared details of disciplinary cases, including the names of those being investigated, the nature of the disciplinary actions, and related documents, with external individuals. These alleged breaches reportedly occurred from early this year up to recent times, involving prominent figures.

Woo and committee member Hwang Kyung-sung issued a statement on March 3rd, revealing these serious allegations. They claimed to have learned of Yoon's alleged pre-discussion of disciplinary matters with outsiders. If true, they argued, Yoon himself should be subject to disciplinary action for breaching his duty of confidentiality.

The vice chairman urged Yoon to make the "honorable choice" to resign before facing any disciplinary proceedings himself. The internal strife within the ethics committee raises questions about the integrity and impartiality of its disciplinary processes.
