Pérez highlights Cadillac pace despite Dutch GP struggles

Sergio Pérez highlighted Cadillac's pace during the Dutch Grand Prix, even as he described the weekend as complex, mirroring the team's season. "I think we made good progress. Our pace was very strong in that first stint where I was stuck behind Valtteri, but we managed to overcut him," Pérez stated. He admitted to a setup error during qualifying that placed him last on the grid. However, he observed a noticeable improvement from Saturday to Sunday after changing tires. "That second stint was looking quite a bit more promising, but the gap was already something high," he added. The Mexican driver also mentioned a missed opportunity for a pit stop under a Virtual Safety Car. "And then, in the end, we had a bit of bad luck because we lost the Virtual Safety Car, unfortunately. We had the opportunity to pit under the VSC," Pérez explained. Despite six retirements leading to a 15th-place finish, ahead of Carlos Sainz, Pérez found a silver lining. "In the end, we managed to finish ahead with the problems they had at Williams, so it's promising," he commented. He acknowledged the difficulties when other drivers closed in, stating, "You're always trying to do your best and at the same time, you don't want to lose them time and I don't want to lose time either. Probably the point where they caught me made it a bit more difficult."
