Perpetrator of Tingbjerg shooting remains unknown as five face complicity charges

Five men are accused of orchestrating the murder of a 32-year-old man who was shot and killed in the Tingbjerg district of Copenhagen on July 20 last year. The prosecution's indictment, obtained by Ritzau, details a plot involving five men aged 22 to 33, who are charged with complicity in murder and attempted murder.

Two other men, both in their early 20s, were injured but survived the shooting. Crucially, the indictment states that none of the accused are believed to have pulled the trigger. The identity of the individual who fired the fatal shots remains unknown to the police.

The charges are brought under a specific anti-gang law, suggesting the shooting was an act of retribution within a conflict between rival groups. The prosecution believes the incident was a clash between factions associated with the NNV-group and Loyal To Familia. Conviction under this law could lead to doubled penalties.

The indictment outlines distinct roles for each of the five accused in the planning phase. This included a meeting to coordinate the assassination, reconnaissance of the crime scene by two individuals, and the preparation of an escape vehicle by another pair. Following the shooting, two of the accused allegedly drove the gunman to Herlev and disposed of the weapon in a lake. A fifth man was tasked with holding the phones of his co-accused while they were in the taxi and later driving them to Herlev.

Three of the accused hold both Danish and Somali citizenship, and authorities are seeking their deportation from Denmark. The trial is scheduled to begin at the Copenhagen Court in March, with 18 court sessions allocated. The verdict is expected by June 28, 2027. All five defendants have pleaded not guilty.
