Person fatally shot during Brockville police search warrant: SIU

Ontario's police watchdog is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred during a police search warrant execution in Brockville, Ontario. The incident took place Thursday evening when officers discharged a firearm.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Brockville Police Service was assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and its East Region Tactics and Rescue Unit in executing the warrant at a home around 8 p.m.

One individual was transported to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The OPP has stated they will not release further details while the SIU investigation is active.

Earlier on Thursday, Brockville police had alerted the public to avoid the area of King Street West and Broad Street due to a significant police presence. At the time, they assured the public there was no active threat to safety.
