The daughter of former President Alberto Fujimori, Keiko Fujimori narrowly won a runoff election against leftist candidate Roberto Sánchez. Sánchez has not yet conceded defeat and intends to contest the results. Peru has experienced significant political instability in recent years, with eight different presidents in the last decade, many of whom were removed from office due to corruption or resignations. Fujimori's inauguration was attended by international figures including Spain's King Felipe VI and the presidents of Argentina and Chile. However, a group of leftist lawmakers walked out of the ceremony in protest.
