Peru to facilitate driver's license renewals in Spain

Peruvians residing in Spain will soon find it significantly easier to manage their driver's licenses without needing to travel back to Peru. The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) is spearheading a modernization effort that will allow for the renewal and duplication of driver's licenses directly at Peruvian consulates in Spain.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to streamline bureaucratic processes, which also includes a digital platform designed to expedite the exchange of Peruvian licenses with Spanish authorities. The MTC has collaborated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, adapting the National Driver System (SNC) to handle these procedures remotely from consular offices. Training, functional tests, and technical validations have been completed to prepare for the service's launch.

Initial testing of the system is scheduled to begin on June 16 as part of a "marcha blanca" or soft launch phase. The MTC has also developed a web service to aid Spanish authorities in validating Peruvian licenses during the exchange process. This tool will enable automatic verification of the authenticity and validity of documents issued in Peru, significantly reducing validation times and simplifying the process for the Peruvian community in Spain. The platform is currently undergoing pilot testing with the Provincial Traffic Headquarters in Madrid.
