Pet ice cream stand opens in Baal, Belgium

A unique ice cream stand has opened in Baal, Belgium, catering not only to humans but also to their furry companions. Owner Ilse Reydams has introduced a special line of ice cream formulated for dogs and cats, aiming to provide a safe and enjoyable summer treat for pets. The pet-friendly ice cream is made with rice flour, is sugar-free, and lactose-free, addressing concerns that regular dairy ice cream can cause digestive upset in animals.

I came up with the idea of making special ice cream for dogs and cats because I have pets myself and wanted to give them a nice ice cream sometimes.

Reydams, who also runs a cat pension and grooming salon called Chateau Chat, was inspired by her own love for animals. The stand, aptly named Chat'eau glace, is located on the driveway of her cat hotel, reflecting her passion for animals.

They are lactose-free, sugar-free and made with a type of rice flour so that the dogs and cats do not have an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients.

The special ice cream has proven popular with local pets. Reydams noted that dogs are enthusiastic eaters, enjoying all the flavors offered. For the more discerning feline palate, strawberry and watermelon flavors are the current favorites. While the human menu boasts 12 different flavors, sorbets, and milkshakes, the pet ice cream is drawing in many dog owners, though cats are also welcome to indulge.
