Peter Lund Madsen’s Rare Record Collection Goes Up for Auction

More than 1,000 records collected by the late Danish brain researcher and television personality Peter Lund Madsen are going under the hammer at Bruun Rasmussen. Several releases are rare, with estimates ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 Danish kroner.

The collection reflects decades of careful work and a strong personal passion for music. “This is a very personal and thoroughly assembled collection. What makes it special is not only its high quality, but also the extraordinary care Peter Lund Madsen himself put into it,” said Ludvig Hjorth, a specialist at Bruun Rasmussen.

Madsen, who died on August 10, 2025, was known as a brain researcher, psychiatrist and television personality. He was popularly known as “Hjerne-Madsen.” His particular fondness for Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young is evident in the collection, which contains more than 400 of Young’s records.

Among the highlights is a rare 1963 single by The Squires, Neil Young’s first band. Bruun Rasmussen estimates its value at 8,000 to 10,000 kroner. Several Neil Young records also contain “small notes and descriptions from Peter Lund Madsen” on the inner sleeves, adding a personal trace to the collection.

The remaining records include about 550 releases by Danish and international artists, including around 100 jazz albums. Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash and Danish artist C.V. Jørgensen are among the other names featured. The more than 1,000 records are spread across 62 catalogue lots, with nearly 20 vinyl records in each. The online auction takes place on September 15, and bids are already open.
