Pheelz: 'I’ll live forever through my music'

Nigerian singer and producer Pheelz has released his latest album, 'A Rii Set,' which he describes as a representation of creative freedom and a necessary reset in his career. The title itself embodies this theme, signifying a return to the core of his musical passion and a renewed commitment to creating art without constraints.

Freedom inspired the title. That is what it represents. What inspired the title was the need for a reset; the need to go back to the music, go back to what truly matters, fall in love with the craft again and create freely. It’s a reset.

Collaborating with established artists such as Tiwa Savage, Young Jonn, and Flavour, Pheelz found the experience to be exceptionally positive. He characterized these sessions as beautiful, marked by a lack of ego and a shared focus on making music the priority. This collaborative spirit allowed for the creation of what he considers amazing art, highlighting the synergy of great minds working together.

It was a beautiful experience. They are amazing talents. Shout-out to everybody who was on the project. It’s incredible to be able to create art with great names and great minds. I just hope to create more with greater names and greater minds.

Pheelz, who has successfully transitioned from a prominent producer to a recording artist, sees his career evolution not as a drastic change but as a continuous process of reinvention and growth. He believes his core artistic identity remains consistent, with the 'container', his presentation and sound, evolving and maturing over time. This journey of growth is something he expresses gratitude for.

I think it’s always who I have been. It’s more about reinventing myself over and again. The content is the same; the container might be different. It’s evolving, growing, maturing and taking up space. It’s beautiful. Thank God for growth.

When discussing his experimental approach to music, Pheelz clarifies that his experimentation is driven by a desire for self-expression, not by the expectation of commercial success or a measurable payoff. He enjoys the process of exploration and is pleased with the results, leaving the ultimate reception to his fans and a higher power. His upbringing, deeply rooted in music through church and school bands, provided a strong foundation for his lifelong dedication to the craft.

I don’t experiment for a payoff. I experiment to express myself. So, it’s not really a metric for me to use in weighing which one has paid off the most. I just love experimentation and I love what I create. The rest is up to the fans and God.
