Philadelphia 'Chucky' mask suspect arrested in Las Vegas

A man accused of terrorizing people in Philadelphia while wearing a Chucky doll-style Halloween mask has been apprehended in Las Vegas, Nevada, nearly two weeks after police sought public assistance to identify him.

Zymire Hughes, 22, was wanted by the Philadelphia Police Department for allegedly terrorizing citizens in the Center City area. The U.S. Marshals Service announced his arrest on Tuesday, confirming that Hughes was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service in Philadelphia and the USMS Nevada Violent Offender Task Force.

Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Clark stated, "Tonight, the fear that one man brought to the Philadelphia community comes to an end." He added, "By hiding behind a Chucky-style Halloween mask, Hughes terrorized Philadelphia residents and believed he could evade law enforcement. He was wrong. His arrest should send a clear message: You can hide your face, but you can’t hide from the elite investigators of the U.S. Marshals Service."

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner had previously alleged that Hughes was "running around in Center City, scaring people, terrifying people." Hughes faces warrants for his arrest on misdemeanor and felony charges related to at least one victim. Police had described the suspect as being between 16-20 years old, five feet eight inches tall, with a thin build, wearing a white baby doll-style Halloween mask with black hair and carrying a black and blue plaid backpack. Authorities had urged the public not to approach the suspect and to contact 911 immediately if seen.
