Philippine embassy launches Tagalog story writing contest

Celebrating the Philippines' National Language Month, known as "Buwan ng Wika," the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi has initiated its inaugural "Tagalog Children's Story Writing Contest." The event, which began on August 1, aims to foster creativity and engagement among young Filipino nationals residing in the United Arab Emirates.

The contest theme, "Wikang Filipino at AI: Kasangkapan sa Pananaliksik at Tulay sa Yaman ng Impormasyon," translates to "The Filipino Language: A Research Instrument and a Bridge to a Wealth of Information." It specifically encourages participants to explore the ethical and effective use of Artificial Intelligence within the context of the Tagalog language.

Open to Filipino citizens aged 18 years and younger across the UAE, the competition aligns with Proclamation No. 1941, Series of 1997. This proclamation by the late Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos extended the traditional "Linggo ng Wika" (National Language Week) into a month-long celebration, emphasizing the importance of the Filipino language.

The "Buwan ng Wika" is a period when students traditionally don Philippine attire, reflecting a cultural emphasis on heritage and language. This contest provides a modern platform for young Filipinos to connect with their linguistic roots while exploring contemporary technological advancements like AI.
