Firefighters responded on Friday to a blaze beside a transformer substation in Stipančićeva Street, in Zagreb’s Jarun district. The fire broke out in dry vegetation, close to an area covered with branches and overgrowth.

A reader who recorded the incident said it was the second fire at the same spot in only three days. Although the flames were not large, their proximity to the substation caused concern because the fire could spread to electrical infrastructure.

Dragomir Bokan, who lives nearby, said fires had appeared in the area before. He described the site as neglected, with dry branches, abandoned sheds and old cars. “It looks as if someone is continually starting fires in this abandoned area next to the substation,” Bokan said, adding that he suspected an arsonist. There is no official confirmation that the fires were intentionally set, and their exact cause remains unknown.
