Lagos State recorded separate tragic incidents on Friday, June 5, resulting in one death and one serious injury. A partial collapse of a three-story building under construction in Lekki Phase 1 claimed one life, while seven other individuals were rescued alive.

At 22:40 on June 4, 2026, a truck laden with a 40ft container suffered brake failure while descending Old Abeokuta Road inward Abattoir. The vehicle lost control and collided head-on with a peach-colored Toyota Highlander, registration number KRD 179KL.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that the building collapse affected nine people. Emergency responders worked to stabilize the rescued victims at the scene. The agency confirmed one fatality and stated that search and rescue operations were ongoing to determine if anyone remained trapped beneath the rubble.

The driver of the Highlander, an adult male, sustained severe fractures to both legs and his left arm and was trapped in the wreckage. Two other occupants escaped uninjured. No fatalities were recorded.

In a separate incident on Thursday night, a truck carrying a 40-foot container suffered brake failure while descending Old Abeokuta Road. The vehicle collided with a Toyota Highlander, causing severe injuries to the SUV's driver, who sustained fractures to both legs and his left arm. Two other occupants of the SUV were unharmed. Emergency services worked through the night to free the trapped driver, and recovery operations for the truck and container concluded on Friday, restoring normal traffic flow.

Seven adult males were rescued alive and stabilised by emergency responders, one adult male was confirmed dead at the scene and his remains recovered, while one adult male remains missing.
