PHOTOS: Truck knocks down high-tension cables, electricity poles in Ogun

A serious safety hazard was created in Arepo, Ogun State, Nigeria, on Monday night when a truck collided with and pulled down a high-tension electricity line. The incident, which occurred around 9 p.m., resulted in significant damage to two electricity poles and left electrical cables hanging precariously low.

The damaged line serves the Wise Buyers Supermarket Distribution Transformer, and the fallen cables pose a grave risk to motorists, pedestrians, and residents in the vicinity. One of the affected poles is now leaning dangerously, exacerbating the hazardous situation.

In response, the Secretary of the Electricity Committee of the Arepo Area Community Development Council, Akinlolu Akinpelumi, issued a public notice urging extreme caution. "We strongly advise everyone to stay away from the damaged poles and all fallen or hanging electrical cables," Akinpelumi stated. He warned residents against attempting to touch, move, or drive over any of the affected electrical equipment.

The incident has been reported to Ikeja Electric, the local electricity distribution company. Technical teams are reportedly engaged in securing the damaged infrastructure and commencing repairs. The extent of the damage may lead to a disruption in power supply to customers served by the Wise Buyers Distribution Transformer until the necessary repairs are completed.

Community leaders are urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with emergency and technical personnel. They also requested prompt reporting of any additional hazards observed in the area as repair work progresses.
