Phuoc Long established as a ward in Ca Mau: Why is it a transit center?

The establishment of Phuoc Long ward in Ca Mau province marks a new era of development, with aspirations to become a central transit hub for the Mekong Delta region. Phuoc Long ward is formed by merging the former Phuoc Long town and Vinh Phu Dong commune. The consolidated area now covers 98.12 square kilometers and is home to a population of 47,667 people, with 20,621 laborers. The region's economic output is substantial, with a total production value reaching 8,401 billion Vietnamese dong. Its agricultural land, dedicated to rice cultivation and aquaculture, spans over 8,913 hectares, yielding more than 100,000 tons of food and seafood annually.

Strategically positioned, Phuoc Long lies on the transportation route connecting northern Ca Mau to the provincial center and other Mekong Delta provinces. Its intricate network of rivers and canals facilitates agricultural production, aquaculture, trade, and services. The ward serves as a crucial transit point north of National Highway 1 and along the Quan Lo-Phung Hiep route, playing a vital role in both intra-regional and inter-provincial transport.

The ward's economic structure has seen positive shifts, particularly in trade, transportation, and production-related services. Infrastructure, including transportation networks, markets, commercial facilities, and essential utilities, continues to be developed to support urban growth. Expanding residential areas and increasing population density create a favorable environment for developing a modern urban model, further solidifying Phuoc Long's role as a dynamic development center in Ca Mau.
