Grace Bassey Effah, a former Nollywood actress who transitioned to a career in the United States Navy, has announced her engagement. Bassey Effah shared the personal news on Facebook, accompanied by photos showcasing her engagement ring and her fiancé, whose identity she kept private.

"Answered prayers. Age is just a number. Found someone worth calling life with, beyond blessed," she wrote in her announcement. In a subsequent post, she added, "It feels like a dream but when true love finds you, you melt." The engagement marks a significant new chapter for Bassey Effah, who left the Nigerian film industry in 2025.

Her decision to join the U.S. Navy was a long-held ambition, influenced by her upbringing in a military family and her attendance at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School. She enlisted in May 2025, completed Navy boot camp, and subsequently became a U.S. citizen. Bassey Effah dedicated this milestone to her late father, Asido Bassey Effah, a retired naval commander.

Bassey Effah previously explained her departure from acting, stating she no longer found fulfillment in the industry. Her acting career began with the 2005 television series "Shallow Waters," followed by participation in the reality show "Next Movie Star." During her time in Nollywood, she received accolades, including the Most Promising Actor of the Year award at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards. In 2021, she changed her name from Belinda to Grace-Charis, citing a "divine encounter."
