Pilar Bernabé demands that Feijóo remove Mompó over insults against Morant

Pilar Bernabé has demanded that Alberto Núñez Feijóo immediately remove Vicent Mompó after the Valencia provincial leader of the People’s Party described Science Minister Diana Morant as Pedro Sánchez’s “Sánchez sycophant” and said she was “good for nothing.”

Speaking alongside Socialist women, Bernabé said the remarks formed part of a repeated pattern of verbal attacks against women in politics. She said members of the People’s Party had called Socialist women “witches, prostitutes, bitches, brooms” and “Charos.”

She accused Mompó of repeatedly harassing and verbally abusing women in political life, and said he should resign. If he refused, she said, Feijóo should dismiss him and rule him out as a possible candidate for president of the Valencian regional government.

Bernabé criticized what she called “almost a competition” within the PP to insult Socialist women who make political criticisms. She said normalizing such language put democracy at risk and urged the party to stop and think. In her view, the PP found it more rewarding to insult than to approve a regional financing system that would improve people’s lives. “Spain deserves much more,” she said, adding that Spanish identity should be measured by progress, not insults.

Bernabé also said she did not expect opponents in the primary to choose the PSPV-PSOE candidate for Valencia mayor in the 2027 municipal elections. She said she felt strongly supported and would submit her candidacy on Monday, the deadline for applications in 31 Valencian municipalities where Socialists are not in government.
