Pingtung Publishes Long-Term Care Books Sharing Six Major Innovative Care Projects

Pingtung County has launched a comprehensive six-volume book series titled "Pingtung Good Care," documenting its pioneering efforts in long-term care. The initiative follows the county's establishment of Taiwan's first dedicated long-term care department in 2023.

The series encapsulates Pingtung's governance philosophy, policy implementations, and frontline caregiving experiences. It is divided into six key areas: local talent cultivation, precise long-term care services, social welfare integration, medical-nursing co-care, professional innovation, and public awareness campaigns.

County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi stated that Pingtung's diverse cultural landscape, with its numerous indigenous and Hakka communities, presents complex and varied care needs, especially with an aging population. The county's proactive approach aims to make long-term care a force that supports life and connects communities, not just for the disabled, but for all families facing these challenges.

Caregivers shared inspiring stories, such as that of an elder with a brain injury who regained confidence through a collaborative effort involving physical therapy, care attendants, and family support. This case exemplifies the series' focus on "true rehabilitation," which goes beyond restoring function to helping elders re-engage with their lives.

Long-term care department director Chen Kuei-min explained that the books not only chronicle policy development but also feature personal stories, case studies, and governance insights. The goal is to provide a complete picture of how Pingtung identifies needs, builds systems through cross-sector collaboration, and continuously refines its approach based on real-world caregiving scenarios, ensuring that governance effectively serves every elder and family.
