Pitcher Go Woo-seok Suspended 10 Games for Glove Violation

Go Woo-seok, a relief pitcher for the Minnesota Twins' Triple-A team, the St. Paul Saints, has received a 10-game suspension for using an illegal foreign substance on his glove. The ban comes after he was ejected from a game on July 25 for the violation.

The incident unfolded during Go's debut for the Saints, just days after being optioned down from the major league team. While warming up to pitch in the seventh inning against the Columbus Clippers, umpires conducted a routine inspection of his glove. The umpires noticed something amiss, conferred amongst themselves, and subsequently ejected Go from the game.

Major League Baseball has strictly enforced rules against foreign substances since the 2021 season, with umpires empowered to inspect pitchers' hands and gloves at any point. While pitchers are permitted to use rosin for grip, applying it directly to gloves or uniforms, or mixing it with other substances like sunscreen, is prohibited.

Violations of this rule result in immediate ejection and an automatic 10-game suspension. Go's suspension began on July 26. He and the Twins organization have decided not to appeal the ruling. Go will be eligible to return to the mound on August 6.
