Piyush Goyal meets UAE, Indonesia trade ministers; discusses trade, investment ties

Indian Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held separate bilateral meetings with the UAE's Minister of Foreign Trade, Thani Al Zeyoudi, and Indonesia's Trade Minister, Budi Santoso. These discussions took place in Jaipur during the BRICS Trade and Industry Ministers' Meeting.

Discussed ways to further strengthen the momentum of our trade & investment ties under the India-UAE CEPA, and explored avenues for collaboration across diverse sectors.

With the UAE Minister, Goyal focused on enhancing trade and investment ties under the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). He noted on social media platform X that they explored avenues for collaboration across various sectors, emphasizing the significant boost the CEPA has provided to bilateral trade since its implementation in May 2022. The UAE is recognized as one of India's major trading partners.

In his meeting with Indonesia's Trade Minister, Goyal reviewed the progress of negotiations concerning the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA). Both ministers discussed deepening economic engagement and strengthening resilient supply chains. They reaffirmed their commitment to promoting trade-led growth and bolstering India-Indonesia economic cooperation.

We reviewed the progress of the AITIGA negotiations and discussed ways to further deepen our bilateral economic engagement and strengthen resilient supply chains.

India and ASEAN are currently working to revise the AITIGA to improve its effectiveness and address existing concerns. The meetings underscore India's active role in regional economic diplomacy, particularly during its presidency of BRICS in 2026.
