Planes in tarmac near miss at Sydney Airport

A Jetstar flight and a Qatar Airlines aircraft were involved in a near miss on the tarmac at Sydney Airport early Sunday morning. The incident, which occurred around 7 a.m., forced the Jetstar plane to brake suddenly to avoid a collision.

The Jetstar flight, bound for the Gold Coast, was taxiing to the runway when the near miss happened. A Jetstar cabin crew member was injured during the sudden braking and was assessed by paramedics. No passengers were harmed in the incident.

A spokesperson for Jetstar confirmed the aircraft was following air traffic control instructions. "Our aircraft was following instructions by Air Traffic Control when the pilots were forced to brake firmly after another aircraft came in close proximity," the spokesperson said. "We have commenced an investigation into the incident."

This event follows recent disruptions at Sydney Airport, where Airservices Australia acknowledged on Saturday that it was addressing rostering issues. These issues had led to delays on the runway for several consecutive days, impacting over 150 flights due to roster constraints affecting airport operations.
