Plastic factory fire in Tangerang burns for six hours with flames still not extinguished

Flames continued to consume a plastic factory in Tangerang six hours after the fire was reported, sending thick black smoke into the sky and alarming residents nearby.

The fire broke out at PT Technoplastika Prima Perdana in Sentul Jaya village, Balaraja district, on Sunday. Local residents were seen moving valuables from their homes because they feared the fire could spread to nearby housing.

A joint team from the Tangerang Disaster Management Agency, the military and police continued fighting the blaze. BPBD platoon commander Amirudin said the agency received the report at about 12:08 p.m. and believed the fire began in the factory’s production room. Three buildings, covering about 12,000 square meters, were burning, he said.

The BPBD deployed 12 fire engines and 70 personnel. Amirudin said firefighters faced difficulties because the nearest water source was far away and strong winds were fanning the flames. The factory’s plastic materials were densely packed and highly flammable, allowing the fire to spread quickly. He said no one had died, while the cause remained under investigation.
