Plastic Factory Fire in Tangerang Still Burning After 31 Hours

A fire at a plastic production plant in Tangerang continued burning after about 31 hours, forcing firefighters to keep working as the flames grew again on Monday evening.

The fire first appeared at around 12:08 p.m. on Sunday at PT Technoplastika Prima Perdana in Sentul Jaya village, Balaraja district. By 7:16 p.m. on Monday, the blaze was still being handled by emergency crews.

The agency sent seven vehicles and dozens of firefighters to the site. Taufik said the operation was taking a long time because the burning material consisted of plastic raw materials, which behave differently from wood or grass and take longer to extinguish.

He said flames did not spread to nearby homes. One house was damaged after it was struck by debris from a factory wall, but officials said it did not catch fire. The agency estimated the losses at 10 billion rupiah.
