Plateau PDP ratifies Sunday Garba Biggs as consensus governorship candidate

The Plateau State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has formally endorsed Sunday Garba Biggs as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election. The ratification occurred at a significant party gathering in Jos, where Biggs received the PDP flag, symbolizing the official commencement of his campaign.

Today is not about personal victory. It is a triumph of unity, dialogue, and shared purpose. Our party has shown that Plateau is PDP and PDP is Plateau.

Party officials described the selection process as transparent and statewide, involving extensive consultations with elders, stakeholders, youth groups, women leaders, and delegates from all 17 local government areas. Biggs, a former senior government official, expressed gratitude and a "renewed determination to serve Plateau State" in his acceptance speech.

Ordinarily, I should be happy. However, based on my experience, I know that this is a call to duty. While there is joy in being the candidate, I have to reflect deeply on the enormity of the work that lies ahead.

Reflecting on the moment, Biggs acknowledged the weight of the responsibility ahead. He urged citizens to support the PDP, asserting it remains the state's political home and that the party aims to reclaim a mandate he believes was previously taken away. Biggs also committed to serving only one four-year term if elected, emphasizing the importance of zoning principles within the state.

The mandate was previously given to the PDP but was taken away. I believe that this time around, the people of Plateau will come out firmly to support the PDP and restore that mandate.

His administration's priorities will include fostering peace, driving economic recovery, empowering youth and women, supporting agriculture, and developing infrastructure. Mark Jacob, Chairman of the Plateau PDP Governorship Electoral Committee, lauded the consensus process as a model of internal democracy, highlighting the extensive consultations that led to Biggs's selection.

I pledge on my honour that I am going to complete just the four years. Whenever anyone goes against the principle of zoning in Plateau, the people always rise and speak with their tongue.
