PML-N Fields New Leader for Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Election

The political landscape of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is poised for a leadership change as the Legislative Assembly prepares to elect a new prime minister. The dominant Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party has put forward Barrister Syed Iftikhar Ali Gillani for the coveted office, signaling a potential shift with the nomination of a "relatively young leader."

The decision to nominate Gillani was formally announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif after a high-level meeting in Islamabad. This gathering included key PML-N figures from AJK, such as party President Shah Ghulam Qadir, former premier Raja Farooq Haider, and Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Tariq Farooq. The presence of Prime Minister's aides Rana Sanaullah and Saad Rafique underscored the significance of the nomination.

While Barrister Gillani was not present at the meeting where his nomination was finalized, the directive came from party supremo Nawaz Sharif. This indicates a strategic decision by the PML-N leadership to place a new face at the helm of AJK's government, aiming to shape the region's political direction under a potentially fresh mandate.
