PNP expresses solidarity with Colombia after earthquake

Jamaica's People's National Party (PNP) has conveyed its condolences and solidarity to Colombia after a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the nation. The disaster, which occurred on Monday, resulted in at least 111 fatalities, left over 1,500 buildings damaged, and caused an unknown number of people to be trapped under rubble. The Colombian government declared a state of emergency to manage the response to the quake, which was felt across multiple cities and neighboring countries. Opposition Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Senator Donna Scott-Mottley, shared thoughts with those affected, acknowledging the profound impact of natural disasters in the region. Scott-Mottley also praised the courage of emergency responders, healthcare workers, volunteers, and citizens involved in rescue and relief efforts, highlighting the strength found in community unity during adversity. The PNP emphasized the importance of the friendship between Jamaica and Colombia and the bonds between Caribbean and Latin American neighbors, especially during times of tragedy.
