Pochettino to lead U.S. soccer team through 2030 World Cup

Mauricio Pochettino will continue to lead the U.S. men's national soccer team through the 2030 World Cup, following an agreement with the U.S. Soccer Federation to extend his contract. Pochettino guided the team to the Round of 16 in the 2026 World Cup, marking a significant achievement.

"I have seen the potential to become stronger over the past two years leading the U.S. team," Pochettino stated. "The passion shown by fans during the World Cup has further strengthened my belief in the possibilities of American soccer. I want to leave a long-term positive impact on American soccer."

Pochettino, an Argentine who previously managed European clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, took charge of the U.S. team in 2024. He has a record of 17 wins (including penalty shootouts), one draw, and 13 losses. His tenure saw the team achieve its most wins in a single tournament (three) and its first knockout stage victory since 2002 during the recent World Cup.

In addition to his coaching duties, the U.S. Soccer Federation plans to involve Pochettino in the overall development of the national team system. This includes youth soccer, coaching education, collaboration with professional leagues, and various technical aspects of the sport in the United States.

Pochettino is also known to Korean fans as the former coach of Tottenham Hotspur, where he managed Son Heung-min from 2015 to 2019, helping the South Korean star become a key player for the club.
