Polar wave grips Buenos Aires with freezing temperatures; cold alert issued for 11 provinces

Buenos Aires is currently under the grip of a polar wave, bringing significantly cold temperatures and frost, particularly in the Greater Buenos Aires area.

On Monday, August 10, temperatures hovered around 0°C in Greater Buenos Aires, with the city of Buenos Aires (CABA) recording a minimum of 2°C. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued a yellow alert for extreme cold across 11 Argentine provinces, including specific sectors of Buenos Aires province, eastern Corrientes, western Córdoba, northeastern San Luis, La Pampa, La Rioja, San Juan, western Mendoza, northwestern Neuquén, and northwestern Chubut.

The weather is expected to shift on Tuesday. According to specialized site Meteored, winds will change direction, allowing for increased humidity and cloud cover over the AMBA (Greater Buenos Aires Area). While minimum temperatures are predicted to rise compared to Monday, reaching around 6°C, the afternoons will continue to feel cool, with maximums expected between 11°C and 13°C.

The increased cloudiness is anticipated to moderate temperature fluctuations between night and day. The SMN has provided recommendations for dealing with the extreme cold, emphasizing the need for caution during this period of sharp weather change.
