Police and NSCDC strengthen security ahead of First Lady’s visit to Anambra

Police and civil defence officials in Nigeria’s Anambra State have begun a broad security assessment ahead of a planned visit by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and other high-profile dignitaries.

The first phase covers strategic locations, designated venues, major access routes and critical infrastructure. Police said the exercise aims to identify vulnerabilities, verify existing arrangements and strengthen operational readiness before the visit.

The assessment includes threat identification, intelligence coordination, access and movement control, deployment planning, traffic management, emergency response and the protection of lives and property. The police and NSCDC are carrying out the work through enhanced inter-agency coordination.

Anambra Commissioner of Police Nnanna Ama directed area commanders, tactical commanders and divisional police officers to conduct assessments in their areas and immediately address security gaps. He instructed personnel to maintain vigilance, discipline and professionalism while remaining courteous and responsive to the public.

Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga said operations must remain within the law and respect fundamental human rights. Authorities asked residents, motorists, business owners, community leaders and other stakeholders to follow lawful instructions and provide credible information about suspicious people, movements or activities. The command said it would maintain heightened security and operational readiness before, during and after the visit.
