Police arrest 23 foreigners over Ponzi, visa scam in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 23 foreign nationals in the Ota area of the state in connection with an alleged Ponzi scheme and visa scam. The arrests were made on August 4 at approximately 11 a.m. by operatives from the Atan-Ota Division, following credible intelligence regarding suspected fraudulent activities at a residential building.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the police promptly secured the premises and apprehended the suspects for further investigation. The operation aimed to uncover and address suspected fraudulent activities and immigration-related offenses.

Following preliminary investigations, 21 of the arrested foreign nationals were formally handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service on August 5. They will undergo further investigation and face appropriate actions related to immigration offenses. Two suspects, however, have been retained by the police. They are slated for prosecution in connection with Obtaining by False Pretence (OBT) and other related charges, pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

The police investigation is continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged fraudulent activities and to identify any other individuals potentially connected to the scheme. The command is committed to ensuring that all parties involved in such illicit operations are brought to justice.
