Police arrest child trafficking suspect in Abia, rescue six

Abia State Police Command has apprehended a suspect, Nnamdi Lazarus, in connection with child trafficking and rescued six abducted children. The 51-year-old suspect, originally from Mbano in Imo State, was reportedly residing in Uratta Aba, Abia State, where he was found harboring the children.

Acting on credible and actionable intelligence, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Aba North, apprehended Nnamdi Lazarus, currently residing in Uratta Aba, Abia State.

The arrest was made following credible intelligence, leading operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit in Aba North to the suspect. According to DSP Maureen Chinaka, the state's Police Public Relations Officer, all six rescued children have been safely returned to their families. The police statement indicated that an investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the child trafficking syndicate.

The suspect was found harbouring and keeping the children.

The command reiterated its dedication to protecting lives and property through intelligence-led policing. They assured the public that criminal elements would find no safe haven within the state. The suspect, Nnamdi Lazarus, is expected to face charges in court once the investigation concludes.

All the six rescued children, the statement said, have been safely reunited with their families, while investigation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the child trafficking syndicate.
