Police arrest man for selling expired powdered milk in Katsina

Authorities in Katsina State, Nigeria, have arrested a suspect accused of adulterating, repackaging, and selling expired powdered milk. The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Moh’d, was apprehended in Funtua Local Government Area by a surveillance patrol team on June 14, 2026.

Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have arrested one Ibrahim Moh’d, m, in Funtua Local Government Area for the suspected adulteration, re-packaging, and sale of expired, toxic powdered milk to unsuspecting members of the public.

During the arrest, operatives found Moh’d in possession of ten bags of powdered milk. Preliminary investigations suggest the product was expired and unsafe for human consumption. The police statement indicated that the suspect allegedly mixed the expired milk with genuine stock and repackaged it in counterfeit packaging to deceive consumers.

The seized products have been secured as evidence, and Moh’d remains in custody pending the conclusion of the investigation. He is expected to face charges related to the sale of adulterated or harmful food items and misrepresentation of goods, which violate sections of the Penal Code Law 2021.

On June 14, 2026, at about 11:30 am, a surveillance patrol team attached to the Makera Division in Funtua, acting on actionable intelligence, intercepted and arrested the suspect. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was found in possession of ten bags of powdered milk strongly suspected to be expired and entirely unfit for human consumption.

The Katsina State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer DSP Abubakar Sadiq, issued a statement warning traders and business owners against engaging in practices that compromise public health. The Commissioner of Police, Ali Fage, reiterated the command's zero-tolerance policy on substandard and harmful products, urging the public to report any suspicious commercial activities.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, fully aware of the toxic and compromised state of the product, deliberately mixed the expired powdered milk with genuine stock. He subsequently re-packaged the adulterated mixture into new counterfeit packaging to deceive and sell to the public.
