Police arrest six suspects, recover stolen items in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has apprehended six individuals suspected of involvement in criminal syndicates engaged in housebreaking, theft, and receiving stolen goods. These arrests were made through separate intelligence-led operations conducted across the state by the command's Strike Force.

Detectives tracked and arrested one Anas Bello while he was attempting to sell the stolen sewing machine at the Sokoto Central Market.

During these operations, security operatives successfully recovered stolen motorcycles, a sewing machine, and numerous mobile phones. Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest other suspects who are still at large. The police stated that the operations were intensified following specific complaints.

One operation targeted suspects involved in a house burglary on July 24, where a sewing machine, power bank, 13 mobile phones, and cash were stolen. Detectives tracked and arrested one suspect attempting to sell the sewing machine, leading to the apprehension of two others found with stolen phones. Two additional suspects are reportedly still on the run.

The suspects, identified as Mubarak Nasiru, also known as Dan Bahago; Muh’d Bello, alias Malaga; and Ismail Aminu, alias Anda, allegedly confessed to committing the crime with other accomplices who are still at large.

In a separate incident, the Strike Force arrested three suspects linked to the theft of three motorcycles reported stolen from the Alkammawa area on August 2. These suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement, along with accomplices who are also at large. Investigations indicate that several syndicate members assisted in disposing of the stolen motorcycles, with another suspect allegedly acting as the buyer.

Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, Hassan Shaffa, commended the Strike Force for their successful operations, emphasizing the command's dedication to combating crime. He warned criminals to cease their unlawful activities or face prosecution and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
