Police arrest suspect after Netanya rabbi's murder as at least three killings recorded in one day

Rabbi Amos Guetta, a respected figure in Netanya, was stabbed to death inside a yeshiva on Wednesday morning following morning prayers. The attack occurred after a brief argument with a suspect who had come to pray with the rabbi.

According to preliminary police information, the suspect lost control during the argument, produced a knife, and stabbed the rabbi four times. Investigators are working to understand how the altercation escalated so rapidly. The suspect, who is known to police and is described as mentally unstable, was reportedly part of the rabbi's circle and had previously met him during a rehabilitation program.

We saw the wounded man unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing, with severe penetrative wounds to his body. We provided life-saving medical treatment, including prolonged resuscitation efforts, and evacuated him to the hospital in critical condition while fighting to save his life.

Following the stabbing, the suspect fled the scene, prompting a large manhunt by police forces. Forensic investigators collected evidence at the yeshiva to reconstruct the events leading up to the murder. The incident is currently being treated as criminal in nature.

Israel Police later announced the arrest of a suspect, a Netanya resident in his 20s, who was taken in for questioning. Medical teams found Rabbi Guetta unconscious with severe wounds and attempted resuscitation efforts en route to Laniado Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The murder has deeply shocked the community, where the rabbi was known for his significant role in guiding others toward religious observance and offering counsel.
