Police arrest suspect in alleged three-year girlfriend imprisonment and assault case

West Java police have arrested Taufik Hidayat in Bandung, West Java, for his alleged involvement in the prolonged imprisonment and severe assault of his girlfriend, identified as YTR, 29. The arrest comes after an intensive manhunt by a special police task force.

According to reports, YTR was allegedly held captive by Hidayat for three years in a rented room in Cileunyi, Bandung Regency. During this period, she reportedly sustained serious injuries, including impaired vision, a cleft lip, and difficulty walking and speaking. The victim is currently receiving intensive medical care at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung.

The case came to light when YTR's family reported the alleged abuse to the West Java Regional Police on Friday, June 12, 2026. Following the report, the police established a special team, comprising members from various directorates, to locate and apprehend Hidayat. West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan had previously stated that the police would not tolerate such violence and urged the public to provide any information that could aid in Hidayat's capture.

Hidayat was apprehended in the Majalaya area of Bandung. While details of the arrest were not immediately released, the police confirmed that a press conference would be held to provide further information on the case. The police have issued a wanted notice for Hidayat and emphasized their commitment to processing him according to the law.
