Police arrest suspect in connection to pair of Monticello synagogue break-ins

A 33-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with back-to-back synagogue burglaries in Monticello, Sullivan County, New York, police said.

Adalis Rodriguez-Valentin was taken into custody after officers responded at about 2 a.m. last Thursday to a reported break-in at the Pine Knoll Bungalow Colony on Forestburgh Road. Surveillance systems recorded two people entering the synagogue and moving through the grounds.

Officers spotted the suspects after arriving, prompting a foot pursuit. Police said Rodriguez-Valentin tried to hide beneath a building before officers found and arrested her. The second suspect escaped despite a search involving New York State Police, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and a K-9 unit.

Investigators later reviewed footage from an earlier break-in at a synagogue on Wood Avenue. Police said the footage linked Rodriguez-Valentin to that incident as well.

Court records and police summaries show that she faces two counts of third-degree burglary. After her arraignment in Monticello Justice Court, authorities released her on her own recognizance. The investigation remains active, and officers continue searching for the second suspect.
