Police arrest suspect in Ghent stabbing; second suspect still at large

Authorities in Ghent have apprehended one individual suspected of involvement in a stabbing incident that critically injured a 19-year-old on Rodetorenkaai. The victim, who sustained serious injuries, is no longer in life-threatening condition.

The attack, which involved two suspects wielding knives, targeted two individuals last Monday morning near the Dampoort. Following the incident, police and the public prosecutor's office issued a wanted notice for the two suspects. Tips from the public were instrumental in the apprehension of one suspect, who has since been detained by an investigating judge.

Despite the arrest, the second suspect remains at large. Police continue to appeal for any information that could lead to their capture. Investigators are also seeking footage of a separate fight that occurred on Vrijdagmarkt the night before the stabbing, requesting that anyone with images of that altercation contact the police.
